This is from a Mangyan village not more than 20 miles from Hera’s home. This is my most almost perfect shot. They didn’t want us taking pictures so I took it quickly walking down a path. Fair enough. Poor, naked children living in wood huts and playing with kites are easy to exploit with the lens. You can make it look like anything really.

Catch a genuine smile on one of the kids, firing at three point five frames a second, and you have Rousseau’s noble savages playing on the remnants of civilization. Modern child, de-constructed.

Catch a frown. Any sadness. Disappointment. Wait for the kite to hit the ground. Crash. Globalization and it’s discontents. Three point five frames a second. Find a good point of view. Frame it. Wait for it. It will come.
